Rock the bells ! Review of a very hip hop day in NY

Around 3 hours late… The show began around 3pm with kids in the hall… Then from Backstage thank to Frank & Miss info… Dead Prez, De la soul, The pharcyde, Ghostface & Rae, Mos def & Talib ( Blackstarr) with Pharoahe monch as guest for Get the F*** up ( bo bo bo ! ), Methode Man & Red man, Nas with Jay Z as guest ( yes, but i didnt see, because of the fucking security who didnt want me to go back in stage, and my bag and my cell phone and everything were backstage, so i had to figure out a solution .. i did and was too mad to go watch the end of Nas show ).

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST ! I just enjoyed them so much, all the day too ( tired ! but really cool ). But THEM … ah ! I wanted to see them so bad since a while ! I did !

And guess what ?

Busta was there for SCENARIO ! Here we go yo here we go yo SO what so WHAt THE SCENARIOOO !

But like i was in backstage all the day it wasn’t a surprise, but i still really enjoy it and couldnt wait to see busta on Scenario !!

Well just one of the nicer day in my life ! A hip hop day like i never had. With all the artists i love !

Another BK weekend

Sleeping in the Bronx, spent the day in BK… Took the 4 train to 14street and the F train ( no C train running this week end ! ).
Friday, Malaysian restaurant in China town with Frank. Then go to his crib to watch a french movie i never seen before yet, “The child”, heard a lot of things about it… Well… Not that good… I imagined that better and with more difficulties to bring back home the baby. Then another movie.. I missed like 3/4 of this movie, but seemed good lol. Dont even remember the name. Then stayed there because it was too late/early in the morning to go back to the Bronx. So i went back to the bx in the afternoon. To changed me before BK hip hop Festival.
Well… Bronx is pretty much as you can imagine. A lot of people in the street, music everywhere, cars everywhere with people inside… Parking cars with cars inside ( yeah normal ) but with the music on lol… Chair on the walkway. Fire hydrant open with the water everywhere on the street.

Oh and those stairs… Well i had a lot of pain again with my stuff…

So i went to BK hip hop festival after a while in the bx. It was a beautiful… Between BK bridge and Manhattan bridge, close to the river…

So i saw KRS-one for the second time, nice time, primo too. Beautifuul people, cute kids, good energy. Then i walked on BK bridge… First time !! lol i took a long time to decide to do it… since january haha. It was the perfect weather to do it tho !

Mos def Carnegie Hall + After Party

A nice day in NYC. Began with a nice brunch. And BK for the Mike Schreiber’s exposition.
Then, “Wanted”… Not that good, really not what i like as movie lol. And… 1 hour late for Mos def ahh, fuck this F train sorry.. 60 dollars please, i coudnt be late.. but i was !
Anyway. I’m there, time for the break wo… 1 hour late nooo !
But ahh i got 1 hours and half ! I wish i could see the 2hours and half !
Mos def is just wonderful with like 20 musicians ! Just amazing… Really. Fela’s tribute, Dilla’s tribute, “Mr president” to OBAMA… GIL SCOTT HERON as guest, there for 30 minutes… Emotion, music… Quality ! Tribute to Jay electronica.. ! Mos def is just the most beautiful boogie man !

But i wasn’t done with 1hour half so i called my friend ” can i come to the after party?”.. I went, thank to you ! It was great. 2 or 3 hours more ! With glasper, chris dave, cassey and some others from the show ! Great… Slum village, John coltrane… Mos def showed us all his influences.. And the musicians just had fun this night. And we had too.

Mos def @ Nokia Theatre

Okay i spoke about Jay Electronica, but it was Mos Def’s concert.
But the thing is, about Mos def there isn’t any polemic ( Jay electronica, watch the comments on okayplayer board and FWMJ’s blog). He is always good on stage. He is funny, natural, and knows how to keep the public focus.
But some people doesn’t like his style on stage. It’s not always hm on the mic. The DJ play some music, soul, reggae, funk. And Mos def dances !

The differences ? He sang less, and rap more, speak more in NYC. And was a little less High And the public is not the same. The public in NYC was more receptive and more mix (kind of people, all ages, all origins, more superficial people too … )A good show, but not the best.

Jay electronica at Nokia Theatre March 30th

Opening artist for Mos def’s show, Jay electronica wasn’t perfect. Too much stress, nervous… Overexcited.
Some stupid people cried “MOS DEF MOS DEF” without to listen. For people who knows a little the Jay Electronica’s life… It wasn’t a real suprise to see Miss Erykah Badu like a surprise guest ! But for most of the people in the place, it was ! A really good surprise. But this song could be better…
If we don’t forget that it was his first show in NYC ( i guess ? ), it was a GOOD first show, can’t wait for the next shows.

Like Frank said, there is some work to do.
