Harlem – Check the Rhyme
April 20, 2008

Saturday 19… With 75°F… A beautiful Day in NY. I went to Harlem, in Hue-man café and bookstore on Frederick Douglass Blvd. It was a spoken word event. 5 poets read their poems, some sang, some rap. We were a few people. But it was very nice, very powerful. Differents women, blacks, white, Latino… From ATL, Bronx, Queens… It was intense.
My first Spoken word and reading event. And not my last. I really loved Ella Turrene, a strong haitian woman, she sang, she is a very good spoken word woman too. She read two poems about Haiti and Pierre-Dominique Toussaint (if you want know a little more about this country), she made me feel weird, it was very deep. And her last poem was about men, and how a woman today is independant, and how we need true man, not man telling ” i will take care about you ” ( as if we need a man to take care about us ) and at least, it’s us who take about them… A very funny piece !
The other woman who really impress me was a poet from ATL, Letitia Ford. More sad poems. But i really love it. She is very sensitive and strong in the same time. And she touched me a lot with this sensibility.

But the thing is, about Mos def there isn’t any polemic ( Jay electronica, watch the comments on okayplayer board and FWMJ’s blog). He is always good on stage. He is funny, natural, and knows how to keep the public focus.
But some people doesn’t like his style on stage. It’s not always hm on the mic. The DJ play some music, soul, reggae, funk. And Mos def dances !
Restaurant
April 2, 2008
I discover this place by chance. I spent the day with Onra, in BK for 2 weeks, and met Pursuit Groove before to go to Flying Lotus show. We tried to find a good restaurant, by walking on the Knitting Factory way. And i wanted some asian food… And I saw like that on a perpendicular street “Malaysian Cuisine” ! Someone already know the Malaysian food ? No ! Okay let’s try.The place was FULL. Okay a good point, it must be very good. We didn’t wait so long. Have a nice place. I tried an indian entrée, very good I can’t remember the name. And after took some noodles with beef and soja. SO SO SO GOOD !!! With a delicious sauce !
AND the best is : with an entrée and my noodles… I paid : 10 dollars !!!
Cheap and good ! I say yes !

Jay electronica at Nokia Theatre March 30th
April 2, 2008
Some stupid people cried “MOS DEF MOS DEF” without to listen. For people who knows a little the Jay Electronica’s life… It wasn’t a real suprise to see Miss Erykah Badu like a surprise guest ! But for most of the people in the place, it was ! A really good surprise. But this song could be better…
If we don’t forget that it was his first show in NYC ( i guess ? ), it was a GOOD first show, can’t wait for the next shows.
Like Frank said, there is some work to do.

It was an amazing moment for me, even if the man is tired and old (because of the drugs)… It was like a dream. To have a chance to see him… I will never forget this moment!
